Online shopping is the process consumers go through to purchase products or services over the Internet. An online shop , eshop, e-store , internet shop, webshop, webstore, online store, or virtual store evokes the physical analogy of buying products or services at a bricks-and-mortar retailer or in a shopping mall.

The metaphor of an online catalog is also used, by analogy with mail order catalogs. All types of stores have retail web sites, including those that do and do not also have physical storefronts and paper catalogs.

Online shopping is a type of electronic commerce used for business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-consumer (B2C) transactions.

The term “WebshopOnline shopping ” also refers to a place of business where web development, web hosting and other types of web related activities take place (Web refers to the World Wide Web and “shop” has a colloquial meaning used to describe the place where one’s occupation is carried out).

Online Buying Behaviour

Buying online means that there are new ways of reducing costs by reducing the number of staff needed, (Chaffey et al:2007).

It is a more affective way of getting products to people and spreading into different demographics.

Porter 5 Forces and online buying

1) Bargaining power of consumers. They enjoy a wider choice

2) Supplier power. It is more difficult for consumers to manage a non-digital channel. Internet increases commoditisation.

3) Threat of new entrants. Online means it is easier to introduce new services with lower over-heads.

4) Threat of substitutes

5) Rivalry among competitors. It easier to introduce products and services to different markets.

Knights Apparel Inc. has named veteran apparel and home textiles industries executive Donnie Hodge President and Chief Operating Officer, it was announced by Chief Executive Officer Joseph Bozich. In his new post, Hodge will be responsible for running the day-to-day operations of the leading producer of licensed sports apparel. His direct reports will include the executives responsible for the company’s finance, operations, sourcing, merchandising, sales and human resources functions.
Hodge, who has over 35 years experience in operations, management, manufacturing, marketing and supply chain at apparel and home textiles manufacturers, was most recently the Chief Operating Officer of the Gerber Childrenswear division of Kellwood Company, where he helped orchestrate a re-engineering of the brand. His efforts over the past seven years drove the Greenville, S.C.-based Gerber to “Best-in-Class” metrics in the areas of sales growth, operating earnings growth, capital employed, inventory turns, SG&A and Burden costs, distribution, and price value positioning.
Prior to that, Hodge spent 19 years at J.P. Stevens and successor company West Point Stevens, Clemson, S.C., where he rose to become Senior Vice President-Strategic Planning and a member of the company’s Executive Strategy team. During that time, he helped turn the home textile division into the top performing group within the company, leading the effort to stabilize business processes and helping to direct the development of the Ralph Lauren Home Fashions line. Hodge began his career at Milliken and Co., Spartanburg, S.C., and held various management positions over a 10 year period there.
“We are excited about adding a key member to our executive management team with Donnie’s apparel industry experience, skill set, leadership qualities and track record of success,” said Bozich. “This is an important step as we build on the company’s already strong foundation to support our rapidly growing business. I look forward to working closely with Donnie to execute our strategies and continued growth plans.”
A resident of Landrum, S.C., Hodge holds a BA degree from Erskine College, Due West, S.C. Executive search firm DHR International assisted Knights Apparel in the placement of Hodge. About Knights Apparel Inc. Knights Apparel Inc. is a leading producer of licensed sports apparel for mass market retailers, mid-tier department stores, and sporting goods retailers. Superbowl Sunday is not a day most retailers would expect to do big business. But for The Gift Tree, the world’s largest dealer of Edna Hibel paintings and lithographs, the day provided a banner grand opening in the Greentree Plaza, 12 years ago.

Hibel was scheduled to make a signing appearance that day and her son wanted to cancel the visit, concerned that no one would show up, due to the game.

“She’s like my mom. I call her ‘Mom.’ I love her to death,” owner Paul Stanford says of Hibel. “Her son was afraid it would be embarrassing for Edna, for the company and for us, too, when no one showed up. But when she heard about it, she insisted on coming.”

Despite the misgivings, Stanford says the turnout was massive. More than 1,000 people stood in a line that went out the door and around the corner drugstore, protectively holding precious pieces of art to be signed by the legendary Hibel.

It’s been a lot like that ever since.

Art Show Message From Inside

THE pretty colours and whimsical drawing in Marina Perkovich’s solo show belie a confronting message about broken people abandoned by society.
In the early 1990s Perkovich was a social worker, helping to rehabilitate people who had been in state care or juvenile detention and were unprepared for a life of independence. Typically they were homeless and psychologically disturbed and as adults had wound up in prison for petty crimes.
“There was nowhere for them to go and so they were in jail,” Perkovich said. “It was just when people were starting to see the impact of de-institutionalisation.”
Perkovich, who is based in Brunswick, has a fashion label called Dark Butterfly and worked for a time with colourful Melbourne art identity Vali Myers.
The screenprints, embroidery and pottery in the show incorporate and are inspired by small objects Perkovich’s clients made or found for her drawings, poetry, pottery, or even pretty pieces of broken glass.
“What I wanted to express with this show is there were a lot of talented people who came from the institutions.” Sadly, Perkovich said many were now dead.
“The people that I worked with, when you are in a firm relationship with them, they are some of the most delicate and gentle people you could ever meet.”
As an artist, she said she felt a responsibility to represent her clients’ plight, but had needed a few years to reflect before she could make art about them.
